Our Projects

Anwarrbarr Tours – Cultural Tourism on Country

Anwarrbarr Tours is Malbak’s first major project—created to bring people onto Country in a respectful way, guided by Traditional Owners.

Launched in development phase in 2025, the tours are run by local Djandjomerr family members, sharing stories, sites, and culture from Marlkawo and surrounding homelands in West Arnhem Land. Tours are aiming to launch dry season 2026.

Our tours support:

  • Cultural sharing – visitors learn from Traditional Owners
  • Local jobs – training and employment for community members
  • Land care – sacred sites are protected and managed
  • Economic development – tourism income stays in community

This is not just tourism—it’s truth-telling, healing, and walking together.

Food Security Partnership – Monthly Deliveries with OzHarvest

In partnership with OzHarvest, Malbak supports food security for families living on Country.

Since 2024, over 100kg of rescued and donated food is delivered every month to Marlkawo Homelands, helping families access fresh, healthy supplies where shops and transport are limited.

This project supports:

  • Nutrition and health for families on Country
  • Reduced food stress for Elders and low-income households
  • Sustainability, by reducing food waste and supporting local solutions
  • Connection to Country, by allowing people to stay home longer

Together with OzHarvest, we’re making sure our community is fed, supported, and not forgotten.

Training & Development – Building Skills for the Future

Malbak is committed to building skills, confidence, and opportunities for our people—starting on Country.

We’ve already delivered governance training for our Board and leaders to strengthen decision-making and cultural leadership.

As funding becomes available, we are working towards more training opportunities, including:

  • Remote First Aid
  • Operating Small Equipment (chainsaws, 4WD, etc.)
  • Tourism Training (guiding, hosting, safety)
  • Other workplace skills that help people step into local jobs or projects

Training helps our people:

  • Grow strong in leadership
  • Stay safe on the job
  • Get ready for work in tourism, land care, and community projects
  • Build pride and confidence through learning

Malbak’s vision is long-term: training now, for strong futures on Country.
